First up was Windy City Red Hots to check out their Vegan Hot Dog $3.50 and Fries $1.95. The Post said "You'd have to travel to Chicago to find a hot dog this good." Hardly. It's just a Tofu Pup with mediocre Fries. It can't hold a candle to Loving Hut's Hog Dog.
Next door at Blue Mountain Cafe we enjoyed The Vegan Platter $6.50. The service and atmosphere were nice. Not to be a vegan ingrate, while the platter was light and healthy, it was nothing worth going out of the way for.
Dinner was Field Roast Frankfurters with Ian's Onion Rings. I was determined to eat a delicious Hot Dog today and finally succeeded.
Yes, the other half of a piece of Hazelnut Cake from Vegan Treats via Loving Hut for dessert.
Coming up tomorrow: No new restaurants sampled.

Hmm... now why wouldn't the Washington Post contact you, the right Shenandoah Vegan, for essential vegetarian eats? You seem to have them down. Nothing against tofu pups, but they're nothing to travel for unless you're traveling to the grocery store for a quick dinner. Still, Leesburg looks like a very pretty town with a lot of interesting history so at least you got a nice trip before heading home for your delicious dinner. Mmm... onion rings...
Bummer that both places seemed to deliver only mediocre fare. The second plate looks really good though, too bad it was nothing special though. I could totally go for a a good bowl of rice and beans now though. Glad that you finally got your good vegan dog in though ;) Those onion rings look delicious! I am totally craving onion rings now too. In a perfect world I'd have a plate of rice and beans and onion rings in front of me right now ;) cake looks great as always!
Time to sign up for a freelance job, covering all the actual "essential veg restaurants." I'll be a reference for you! ;)
Dinner and dessert clearly made up for the mediocre meals! Fairly certain I saw the franks on sale again, I'll check it out when I go a little later.
Hey Now!!!!
Miss Rachel, yeah, why doesn't that Washington Post contact me? What kind of reporting is that? Anyway, Leesburg does have a quaint historic section (in addition to a popular outlet mall and all the big box retailers your heart desires).
VaVa, lunch was a major bummer. Perhaps it was just an off day for both restaurants. I hope you get your Onion Rings!
Ingrid, thanks for the reference (although that might do some damage to your credibility). My last pack of Field Roast Frankfurters cost $5.79. Well worth it though.
