Another Whole Foods Success Story

Many, if not all, were intrigued by my lunch yesterday. This recipe was the inspiration. I neglected to do the salting of the Cucumber slices and obviously, didn't slice the Lemons as thin as necessary. Still, it tasted great and I hope to recreate it this weekend to better effect. In the mean time: What looks really bad but tastes really good? Cauliflower, Lentils, Green Beans, Onions, Red Peppers all cooked together with lots of spices.
Less delicious but more attractive, a cup of Adobo Black Bean Chili.
A WF's Veggie Burger w/Elise's Fry Sauce Baked Sweet Potato for dinner.
A half a slice of Loving Hut Blueberry Cheesecake for dessert.

WTF Wednesday

Smoothie made with a Frozen Banana, Frozen Blueberries, two TBSPs Chia Seeds, a Medjool Date, 1/4 cup Hazelnut Milk, one TBSP Hemp Powder (Thanks for the tip, Morgan!) plus some water & a few ice cubes. Where did that sprinkle of Coconut on top come from?
Hummus, Cucumber & Lemon on Sassy Sandwich Bread (word on the street is that Lemons are good for you, unfortunately, for this Sandwich they were supposed to be sliced 'whisper thin' which I didn't do).
Veganomicon's Simple Seitan with Country Bob's, Rice & Beans and Roasted Asparagus.

Sassy, Simple, Sweet & Shirazy Sunday

This morning I finally made the Sassy Sandwich Bread recipe from Sarah Kramer's calendar for March. I had to make it first thing cuz every time I thought of making this bread, I became very sleepy and had to crawl into bed. Dianne's instructions helped the Yeast survive my ineptitude.
Shazam! After 25 minutes of baking, a normal loaf of bread emerged from the oven!
It actually tasted great too with an excellent texture! After much deliberation, Yves Bologna was selected as the first home-made bread sandwich filling.
I truly admire those that can bake bread on a regular basis. Dinner was Veganomicon's Simple Seitan with Country Bob's, Baked Sweet Potato and Roasted Asparagus.

Smooth Operator

I'm finally catching on to how to make Smoothies. This one had a frozen Banana, a few frozen Strawberries, a Nectarine, two TBSPs of Chia Seeds, 1/4 cup Hazelnut Milk (not mine, just bought in store) with just a few ice cubes and some water. Tasted like an actual Smoothie that one would buy in a store.
Asmar's Veggie Tuna Salad Sandwich for lunch.

Navy Bean Soup from Mom's Place for dinner. According to Mom/Stella, it's the Tomato Paste/Sauce? in the soup that gives it that distinctive orange hue. Mom's Place has just added a Boca Burger (as well as Spaghetti Marinara & a Vegetable Plate) to their menu. Yay! Because Mr. SV is out of town this weekend, we will have to wait till next weekend to partake, but Stella/Mom promised that they would still be around next weekend. (No OCD there).

After The Storm

A very scary storm just passed through. A good eight inches of tongue worth. Major panting ensued.
All the thunder and lightening didn't stop me from indulging in some WF's PB on TJ's Bread.
Back tomorrow with more eats.

WTF Wednesday

Mr. SV WTF'ed today too and took me to lunch at Savoir Faire. There's nothing exactly vegan on the menu, so the chef made us a meal of her own devising (Black Beans, Tomatoes, Green Peppers & Onions on Rice with Salad on the side). How refreshing is it to have a chef make a vegan dish that IS NOT a Portabella Mushroom or Eggplant??? Mr. SV ate the Thyme on top of his dish. I said it should not be eaten as it was a decoration. We decided to ask the readers: to eat or not to eat the Thyme sprigs on top? That is the question.

Above photo courtesy of Mr. SV's cell phone. Dinner was a Whole Food's Veggie Patty with Steamed Broccoli.

No dessert as we're in the midst of a massive T'storm and just trying to get this posted ASAP. Santa Rita Cabernet Sauvignon. We look forward to your answers.

Loving Hut

The D.C. Metro Area now has its very own Loving Hut! Their menu isn't online yet, so referencing Jessica's Post, I called for carryout. None of the items Jessica recommended were to be had, so I wound up with the Portabella Panini $6.95 - Grilled Portabella with Bell Peppers, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Melted Vegan Cheese & Vegenaisse on Grilled Bread.
When I got there, they had a menu, so I hastily ordered other carryout out items I thought would last till dinner. Summer Rolls $2.50 Vegan Seafood, Vegan Ham, Lettuce, Mint, Cucumber, Almond Hoison Sauce.
plus an Aulacese (Vietnamese) Sandwich $2.95 - Vegan Ham (loved this!), Cucumber, Cilantro, Jalapeno, Vegenaisse, Aulacese Sauerkraut with Baguette.
Blueberry Cheesecake $3.50
This place is so cool. Instead of Soy Sauce, they have bottles of Bragg's Liquid Aminos on all tables. They also sell vegan faux meat items/seasoning. Can't wait to eat my way through the menu.
