Sunday Mini Post

Lunch was a Light Life Turkey Sandwich with Tomatoes on Whole Wheat. It was pretty beige in taste as well as appearance. Should've put some Red Onion on it, but I was too lazy.
But not too lazy to make a very interesting recipe from Oprah's website -- Tangy Lentil and Chickpea Soup. There was a rogue Fava Bean in one of my cans of Chickpeas. Very exciting. He went into the soup too.
This is one of the best soups I've had in years. I wonder what other Oprah goodness I've been missing out on all these years?
Then I had some Ry*Krisp Crackers and Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll try one of the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups I made yesterday.

Saturday Mega Post

It's been about five years since we've hauled out the Omega T1000 (circa 1997). Today it plowed through five pounds of Carrots in minutes just like it was brand new.
A pound of Carrots makes about a cup of juice. To me, Carrot juice is as delicious as any milkshake.
Nothing like a big glass of Beta Carotene in the middle of winter.
Lunch was a couple Smart Dogs with Ketchup & Mustard.
Alicia Silverstone was on Oprah this week, and some of her recipes are now on Oprah's website. Vegan Tickles recommended Alicia's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, so today I made a batch. Still haven't tasted them yet.
Dinner was Vegan Crunk’s Country Potato Soup. I followed the recipe exactly, but didn't add the Veggie Bacon, I just sprinkled Bac'Uns on top. Next bowl, I'm going to slice some Tofurkey in it. Excellent recipe, will definitely make again!
And of course there was some of the Creekage to drown all my sorrows. See you tomorrow!

Dinner was one of Alicia's Cutlets w/Heinz 57 and a Baked Potato w/Toffuti Better than Sour Cream.
Even though both meals were delicious, I have been totally uninspired the past week or two thinking of things to eat. That should change soon.

My Vegan Moment

Lunch was at 2941. I made the reservation by phone five days ago, and called to confirm the reservation an hour ahead of time. On both calls, I emphasized that I was vegan. Ordering time arrives and the waiter knows nothing of this vegan **** and tells me I have to accept what is on the regular menu. I point out that nothing on the menu is vegan. The waiter goes to check with the chef who says "we're swamped with Restaurant Week and all we can offer you is the salad without the shrimp and cheese". Why couldn't they tell me they can't accommodate vegans when they had me on the phone twice before? To cope with this situation, I order the 'Yuzulicious' Cocktail $11. Supposedly consisted of: Grey Goose Vodka, Yuzu Juice, Cranberry Confit and Simple Syrup. Tasted like it consisted of: Vodka & Minute Maid Lemonade. Not that that's a bad thing.
The bread service was ample. I ate a lot of it. Only because there was nothing else to eat. Butter was available for spreading. I got the impression that the Bread tasted really good with Butter...
Speaking of Butter, behold my "Butterhead Lettuce Salad" $12 described as: spicy cashews, Fuji apple, black sesame. Translation: Butter Lettuce with some thinly sliced Apples, some spiced nuts and Black Sesame Seeds.
I was just so happy to get home tonight. I made myself some of that super complicated vegan cuisine for dinner. Seitan cutlets with Baked Potatoes and Sour Supreme:
As Scarlett O'Hara said "Tomorrow is another day."

The Mushroom Leek ones were the standouts. Liberty Creek Cabernet Sauvignon was the libation of the evening.

That's about it.

Things I Ate Today

Lunch was leftover Kung Pao Tofu from Joe's Noodle House ...
Dinner was one of the cutlets I made on Saturday. While these cutlets were quite tasty and had a pleasing texture, I personally prefer Alicia's and these required more work and ingredients. I enjoyed the cutlet with Mashed Potatoes and Road's End Organic Shitake Mushroom Gravy.
See you tomorrow.

Still Batting 1,000

Lunch was Spaghetti from LEDO Pizzeria. Their sauce is so tangy and tomatoey, but totally not acidic. I could've just had Tomato Sauce for lunch without the pasta.
Dinner was one of Alicia's Cutlets with Heinz 57 and Roasted Cauliflower with Goddess Dressing.
A bottle of vino was consumed per usual.

A Delicious Day

Lunch was carryout from Wegman's -- A cup of Red Lentil Chili and a small Salad with Goddess Dressing. I haven't always found Wegman's prepared foods to be so fantastic, but today was an exception. The Chili was actually flavorful, both moderately spicy and slightly sweet. The Salad was tasty enough to make it worth the risk of ingesting all the germs spewed upon it from the many out-of-school kids roaming the store today.
Dinner was carryout from Sunflower -- 'Curry Supreme' (Chunks of Soy Protein served with Broccoli, Potatoes, Mushrooms, Carrots and Green Peas in a special Japanese Curry Sauce).
What delicious day would be complete without copious amounts of Liberty Creek Cabernet Sauvignon to help cap it all off? None that I know of.

Soggy Sunday

No old food today, although Blessed Mama's recent comments have reminded me of a great old blog of yore. I recommend checking it out if you've never seen it. Lunch was at Joe's Noodle House in Rockville, Maryland. This restaurant is well-regarded for its authentic Chinese cuisine as well as their extensive vegetarian menu. I ordered the Fried Gluten and Shitake Mushrooms as an appetizer. I was expecting a hot app, but this dish was served cold.
Kung Pao Tofu was my main entree. The portions are massive.
I was kinda thirsty after all that, so I had a Grape Steaz when I got home.
Dinner was Morningstar Vegan Grillers with Toffuti Singles and Oven Fries.
And vast quantities of Liberty Creek Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cutlets

Lunch was leftover pizza from January 1st (only 16 days young and still delicious).
Dinner was Chickpea Cutlets with Ore-Ida Onion Rings and Goddess Dressing...
I usually make Seitan on Sunday, but today felt like Sunday so I made a batch of Alicia's Cutlets...
...and a batch of these unusual burgers from Yummy Vegan Dinners.
They need to cool COMPLETELY before they can be fried up and eaten, so they'll show up later in the week along with the other cutlets. Much to look forward to.

Friday

Today was all leftovers. Lunch was leftovers of the recipe I made last week.
Dinner was leftover Tetrazzini.
I don't think tomorrow will be all leftovers.

Thursday

Lunch was Kung Pao Seitan and Mixed Vegetables from Whole Foods...
Dinner was at the Alamo Cinema and Drafthouse where we started with a pitcher of Amstel Light....I had the Garden Burger and Fries...
The picture was 'Napoleon Dynamite' (we're big fans of this film) and during the dance sequence, some people from the audience got up to dance along...
Then one of the movie's stars, Efren Ramirez, came out for a Q&A afterwards.
This was an unusual evening for us.
