Sunday, January 5th

No breakfast, instead, as planned, I picked up carryout from PF Changs to bring to my mother's today for lunch. My Spring Rolls...
and MaPo Tofu. She has a lot of light in her kitchen...
'Peruvian Purple Potato Soup' from Molly Katzen's The Heart Of The Plate for dinner. It's good to have a big pot of Soup on hand...
Roots Market Pecan Sandie for dessert. Really delicious.
Hope everyone is stocked up and ready to hunker down in preparation for the historical cold snap.

Oooh yay for PF Chang's! The Ma Po Tofu always looks delicious and you certainly did have a lot of light to work with! The Tofu and spring rolls are shining in all of their glory! The stew looks so hearty and delicious and the cookie is a perfect nightcap!

Do you get to stay home tomorrow? I feel so bad for everyone that will be dealing with -16 degree temperatures tomorrow... that's just gross. Stay warm!

Oh, nice! I forgot about that soup. It's a perfect one to have on hand these days. I made a mushroom barley soup the other night that's pretty good.
Nice looking Sandie. I used to love the Keebler ones but don't think I've encountered a vegan version.

Sounds like a nice food day with Mom.

I love how bright your mom's kitchen is! Lunch looks great- maybe it should be called ma pao tofu with only broccoli? The chunky dinner stew is so pretty with the purple potatoes in there and all the veggies. My mom used to make some kind of russian tea cookie that looked a lit like that sandie- but hers had powdered sugar that got on everything....

I've been having either my lentil veggie coconut curry soup or the african sweet potato peanut butter kale one. Lots of miso too. Right now i love the sweet earth chai, but i'm not very loyal....
I hope that you, the Mr and the furry fam stay warm and safe from the coming "artctic blast" the weatherman is all excited about.

Yum, those spring rolls look so good! As does the MaPo Tofu, very non-greasy and fresh.

Yikes, I am not envious of the bitter cold that is about to land on the east coast. We'll be in the 30s all week, which is downright balmy in comparison.

You just reminded me that VT used to make pecan sandies and I miss them! Nice choices from PFs.

Ha! Are you getting the cold now too? I so wish I could hibernate at home and not commute.

Hey Now!!!!

Sarah, I refuse to go out tomorrow. If the boss gives me grief, I'll just take vacation time. That's what I save it for (that and the possibility of getting laid off). Hope you are home and cleansing too.

FF, how could you forget about the Purple Peruvian Potato Soup?! If you do a search on it, the pic from your blog comes up. I bought the Sandies due to a feeling of nostalgia. I'll buy them again due to deliciousness.

Blessed Mama, I inherited my obsession with food from my mother. Did you pass your's on to your girls?

Unknown, I still have both the Vegan Peanut Stew and Hunters Stew recipes linked. Guess they'll be next on the agenda once I get more Onions. Your Mom sounds so great with her expert crocheting, baking and glogg drinking.

Ingrid, 30 degree temps has become 'warm' here as well. I'm all freaked out by this polar vortex for some reason. Ordinarily, it's extreme heat that freaks me out.

Abby, Vegan Treats has rarely disappointed me. I'm sure their Pecan Sandies would be no different.

Hannah, so maybe it's a little bit colder up where you are, no 'frost quakes' or 'haircicles' expected here. Take comfort in knowing that you CHOSE to live in the tundra.
