Sunday, January 1st

The calendar says 2012. My grub says 2011. Toasted TJ's Cinnamon Raisin Swirl with Tofutti Cream Cheese for breakfast.Tostadas with Tofutti Sour Supreme for lunch.Field Roast Hazelnut Cranberry Roast En Croute and Roasted Green Beans for dinner.Spent a lot of quality time at Big Lots today. Scored lots of cool deals, including a couple bags of Bob's Red Mill Bean Soup Mix. One of which will become a pot of soup for this week's evening supper in anticipation of a brutal cold snap. Thanks again for all the 'Happy New Year!' comments, they made me feel all warm inside.

Sometimes I really miss bread.
Like when Shen posts her cinnamon swirl bread that I used to love eating for breakfast with butter and jam when I was younger.
Too bad it causes me to buckle over in pain, now.

Oh and Big Lots has some great Bob's stuff. I buy my quinoa from there.

I'm with you Isobelle, I really miss bread too and today was definitely no exception. Too bad it makes me nauseous and dizzy and useless. Wah.

At least I can live vicariously through you Shen! Your breakfast sounds perfect and we were on the same page with the tostadas. Yum!

I am so impatient when it comes to shopping and I wish I could spend more time in Big Lots because I know they have tons of great deals on Bob's products. That is why I shop at the crack of dawn and avoid the masses.

Thank YOU for the Happy New Year wishes as well :)

I don't miss bread (cuz I never gave it up:)), but I *DO* miss Big Lots. Funny you should mention it, because I'm coincidentally wearing a pair of hideous pjs that I bought at Big Lots when we still lived in the US. They have little champagne bottles on them with the word "bubby" inscribed (presumably "bubbly" is what was intended--that's what you get for shopping at Big Lots).

The iceberg lettuce on those tostadas gets me EVERY TIME!!!!

Even if your food says 2011, it shouts "yummy"!

I've heard about the Bob's treasure trove at Big Lots, just might have to venture to one soon. . .

So Big Lots, huh? My 11 year old always asks to go to Big Lots, and I'm not sure how he got it in his head. I always tell him "sometime we'll go." Guess I need to follow through.

And regarding the "Shen Hates Kids" Debaucle of 2011, I was just kidding ya. I know you're always very supportive and complimentary toward us. And my kids HAVE factually put their mouths on the WF sample tongs (which, for those of you just tuning in, I promptly turned into an employee). One of them recently was way too close to my comfort to the salad bar and sneezed (and the other two were sort of running around). I sort of came unglued and hissed, "All of you, stand over here and don't move! Mommy is going to fill the salad boxes! If you take your hand off this cart, no dessert!!!" But other than that, kids are delightful and lots of fun! :)

Eating "so last year" looks better than those cookbook photos from the 70s of day glo orange tuna casserole and veal aspic.
Speaking of calendars, whattup with Sarah Kramer this year? Slack city.

So, now you can say you've been eating that food for two years! Also, I'm impressed with your meal planning - preparing for the cold snap. Ah, now I don't have to worry about you so much. How did the furry ones celebrate the new year coming forth?

A great start to the year! Your breakfast looks especially good. I've got to get a loaf of cinnamon raisin bread. It's great with apple butter!

Would that bread caused me to buckle over in pain, but no, it just makes me want to eat more bread. That field roast thing looks absolutely awesome...anything with hazelnuts is bound to taste great. I'll add to your warm happy feelings by wishing you a happy new year and also saying that in my world your blog has become something of an institution--there would somehow be a hollow place in my day if I couldn't check in on what you were eating. The one blog (that I know of at least) on the Internet that answers my perennial question of, "What are you having for breakfast/lunch/supper?"

Hey Now!!!

Isotope, 'sometimes' you miss bread???? I would be up sh*t's creek without bread. How are vegans supposed to fill up their bellys at restaurants without the bread basket? (I'm not too worried about you at home, you've got the spelt flour all worked out). Yeah, Big Lots really got some good inventory in since my last visit. I saw the Bob's Quinoa, but I'm stocked up on that already.

VaVa, at least you can connect your physical reactions to your food intake. I'm sure I'd feel much better physically and mentally without all the white flour and sugar. The check out line at Big Lots was created so one can ponder the old 'time is money' adage.

Stacy, I've yet to see any clothing at my local Big Lots, so I'll take your word on the PJ's. Mr. SV has begun to enforce my keeping a bag of Shredded Iceberg in the fridge at all times in the event of Tostadas. They're just not the same without.

Ingrid, I'm tellin' ya, I hit the mother lode yesterday. It was truly my intention to photograph my Guy Fieri's Salsa Verde and Lidia Bastianich's Rotini, but I totally wimped out in the end and threw it all in the cupboard.

Jenny, listen to your 11-year-old, Big Lots has cool sh*t for the whole family. Re WF's: I'm fine with kids putting their mouths on the sample tongs, it's the adults that really piss me off. I believe my parents might have been amongst those living off the free samples at one point. Anyway, I still haven't gotten sick from being amongst all the demons at Cheeburger Cheeburger, so maybe kids aren't... oh who am I fooling -- Jenny, I saw a little boy literally trying to stand on his father. It was awful!.

FF, did Sarah Kramer bail on her calendar this year? I hope so. I still have six or seven months of 2011 recipes to make.

Blessed Mama, tonight begins our first winter night of below freezing temps. Not gonna be pretty. I'll keep the blog informed.

Molly, Cinnamon Bread with Apple Butter? That's a new one on me. I've got a jar of Cranberry Apple Butter I need to use up, maybe that will work the same.

Zoa, is my complusion to post my daily meals as sick as the compulsion for internet strangers to view them? Deep thoughts...
