Saturday, March 23rd

Meaza doesn't list their prices on their website, so hitting the minimum $30 to activate our Groupon impelled us to order more food than anticipated. As with last weeks Groupon-driven excursion, we probably would've spent less without the Groupon, but then we never would've gone in the first place had we not bought it.
We started with a 'Sambussa' $2.50 each. Lentils, Onions, Green Peppers in a Crispy Wrap and deep fried. Hard to go wrong there.
We shared a 'Special Vegi Combo' $13.99 and a 'Shiro' $12.99 (the suspicious brown puddle in the middle). The 'Shiro' is described as 'Powdered Peas cooked in special Ethiopian made clog pot with Olive Oil, Garlic, Onion and topped with Fresh Jalapeño'. It tasted like the filling of a Taco Bell Bean Burrito, which, for us, is a good thing. We gobbled that Shiro up. While I don't usually review restaurants on da blog because WTF do I know? I wasn't feeling the ultra laid-back service & shabby retro vibe. As they say on 'The Bachelor', "I can't see a future with Meaza".
Gardein Savory Stuffed Turk'y and Roasted Asparagus for dinner. Enjoyed at home, where the future is now.
A slice of Raspberry Cheesecake from Vegan Treats via Loving Hut for dessert. Extremely rich and decadent.
More eating tomorrow. Presumably.

So the shiro, which was a glop just about as big as any other veggie serving on the combo injera was almost as expensive as the combo itself? Just because it was made in a special pot?
WTF do I know either, but when restaurants don't list their prices I assume it's too much for the likes of me.
"ultra laid back service" is nice of you to say.

Your lunch kinds of looks like a skimpy version of an Ethiopian platter. Bummer you weren't feelin' it. Your dinner, however, looks awesome. That would have satisfied my belly fersure!

Major points for trying places you would normally not try. I've perused our Groupon offers, and haven't found one I'm wanting to try. The appetizer definitely steals the show, in my mind!

Dinner and dessert both look great! The cheesecake sounds amazing.

I agree with the above sentiments. It's great that you tried a new place but a bummer that you didn't enjoy it that much (or enough to go back at least). I still haven't bought a groupon yet, I feel like I'm missing out!

Great looking dinner, the asparagus looks so good! That cheesecake looks like heaven. I remember trying a bite of my friend's cheesecake from Loving Hut and it was AMAZING!

Yup, same sentiments here, too. They seemed to have charged an awful lot for not much. Too bad that the vibe wasn't right. We've had those experiences, too.

That cheesecake looks phenomenal, though!

I'm such a snob that I likely would've moved on as soon as I saw "vegeterian" on the menu. I bet there are incorrect apostrophes all over the place too.

Hey Now!!!!

FF, I know I didn't make that clear. The Shiro came in a separate pot and the waitress spooned some onto the Injera when she first set everything down. So we kept spooning out more Shiro as we ate. The Shiro pot itself had definitely seen better days. Pretty gnarly.

Blessed Mama, I know you're a big fan of Ethiopian cuisine. The food itself wasn't bad, just everything else was bad.

Ingrid, Groupon preys on my neuroses. Not only can't I resist a deal, when there is food involved, the crazy gets amped up even more.

VaVa, don't worry about buying one. Save your money for what you know is what you want when you want it. Please, take my advice, I'm not using it.

Molly, we're just happy that we didn't get heartburn. Also that we got out of the parking lot and away safely.

Hannah, I will make sure to look for that red flag next time I'm researching a new place. You make 'moving on' sound so simple. Ha!
