Saturday, October 11th

Breakfast was enjoyed in my car en route to Ocean City, Maryland this morning...
had to turn off the water and turn on the heat in my mother's condo down there. A four hour drive each way...
Picked up a 'Zaney Veggie Sub' from DeVito's to have for dinner. Hummus, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Cucumbers, Black Olives and Banana Peppers...
I thought that would be all I ate today, till I caught a bag of Cracker Jack out of thr corner of my eye and I knew it would be fruitless to try and resist. Sometimes, after eight hours in grueling traffic, ya gotta binge...
Back to normal tomorrow. Bye for now.

A Cardinal sticks in the Cracker Jack bag, eh? I hope that's not an omen.
You and yr good daughterly deeds deserved the sandwich and the snack. Nice view in any case. So when you and mom meet weekly for lunch, do you each drive 2 hrs and meet halfway??

That's a lotta car time! Hope The Moms is properly appreciative. Is there everything everywhere in your car now? You're likely more neat than i am when you eat....
That sandwich looks packed full of delicious. And if cracker jacks are a binge then i've got serious problems..!!

I'm lazy so i make huge batched of massaged kale at the beginning of the week so i don't have to wash it each time, and i'm fairly handy with a knife so salads come together quickly for me.

Whoa 8 hours in the car?!?! You are definitely a good daughter and I'm sure mom appreciated it. The meals look great. That sub looks and sounds fantastic and you definitely earned that!

Hope you enjoyed the trip to OC. I spent nearly every summer there growing up. Devito's is on the north side, around 130th st, am I right?

Hey Now!!!

FF, so you arent rooting for the Cardinals I take it? Good thing, cuz I tossed the sticker in the trash. I drive an hour to pick up my mother for lunch and then an hour back home. Which, you've really made me see, is quite a feat. Never thought about it before. Maybe I will call and cancel on Mom this week cuz i dont feel like the two hour drive.

Unknown, that is a really good question about the Everything being everywhere in the car. I was in too much of a 'get this done and over with' stupor to notice. Next time I am in the car I will check (if the mice dont clean it up for me before then, country living side effect). I know and understand why you dont blog, but I would sure like to see that Kale Salad with the Meatless Meatballs. That thing would cost mega-bucks in a restaurant.

Sarah, eight hours in the car at pretty much highway speed the whole day. Had to get at least one good meal out of it.

Jared, yep, DeVitos is across the street from the Sun N Surf Movie theatre (the place to go on rainy days along with the Gold Coast Mall). I was vegetarian during the years i had to go with my parents to OC (their place is actually in Fenwick), so no problems then. OC is the most non-vegan friendly place ever. Were i not in such a hurry to get home yesterday, I would have tried to get some Thrashers Fries. Any other OC food recs you have in case I have to return in the spring?

How could I forget the movie theater??
I was there for a weekend this past summer and found the options pretty abysmal. My family has a tradition of going up to Rehoboth and I recall a good veggie pizza (no cheese) at Nicola's. In OC (maybe around 120th?) there is a new bagel joint called Uber Bagels that does some excellent stuff. I brought some tofutti cream cheese and really loved it.

Nicobolis!!!! Oh how i miss them!!! I got some cheeseless ones a few years ago, but they were not the same. Uber Bagels is on my list if I have to return to OC. They have some Veggie Sandwiches that can easily be veganized.
