Wednesday, June 5th

It was a predominately carby day. A mini Carrot Cake from Le Pain Quotidien for breakfast...
O'Brien Potatoes, Sesame Tofu and Balsamic Roasted Mushrooms from WF's for lunch....
Can't resist the vending machine...
A Mediterranean Picnic Sandwich (grilled Zucchini, Peppers and Eggplant) from The Randy Radish for dinner....
Since The Randy Radish is scheduled to be at the Leesburg Farmers Market every Wednesday, I thought it would be a good time to sign up for the summer CSA from Potomac Vegetable Farms (the purple tent to the left).
Today was my first CSA haul: Spinach, Head Lettuce, Hakurei Turnips, Fava Beans...
Kale, Thyme, Kohlrabi and Green Garlic...
PVF gives storing instructions and recipes, which is definitely needed. The Garlic and Kale are destined for a big pot of soup. Gonna be a stretch to utilize the rest.

I am so excited for yr CSA hauls!! I've always wanted to sign up for one but I'm never around for a pick up. I can't wait to see all the fresh vegetables you get! Carby days no more!

Yes!!!! That CSA haul is gorgeous!! Can't wait to see what you do with all of that beautiful produce! You are guaranteed to have lots of jealous vegans ogling these CSA hauls.

You know I'm all about the carby days. I want that carrot cake and holy crap that mediterranean sandwich looks amazing!! I've been craving pretzels like crazy lately, must be the gluten detoxing. I need to find a good gf soft pretzel recipe... but I digress :)

I can see the goodies inside the Carrot Cake breakfast, looks delicious.

How awesome that you signed up for a CSA! I wouldn't get through a box fast enough to prevent spoiling, but I hope to one day join.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the rest of the produce!

I am so jealous your LPQ has those mini carrot cakes and mine doesn't! Breakfast-y potatoes are somehow more delicious than any others, and the tofu mushroom mix is a nice pairing.
Wednesdays will be your favorite day of the week!! Csa and randy radish?!
Do you already own mark bittman's "how to cook everything vegetarian"? Its an iphone app now too- anyways, the book lists tons of vegetable and fruit and recipes for each, along with best way to prepare them- may come in handy for you with mystery veg. I love kholrabi sliced very thin in salads raw and altho favas are annoying to clean and cook they are soooooo good.

I am so proud of your carrot cake breakfast. Did you eat the whole thing? You know the pride is dependent on that fact.

Hey Now!!!

FF, seeing the Kohlrabi in my CSA haul made me think of your time last year at the food bank explaining the veggies. Like, 'huh? What dis?'

VaVa, I've been thinking of Soft Pretzels for months. WF's has them, but I've resisted so far. Perhaps your comment is a sign I should get one or two.

Ingrid, I'll trade my CSA subscription for your dining out in Texas.

Unknown, my LPQ has something your's doesn't? Does your local WF's have O'Brien Potatoes? Wednesdays are definitely going to be action packed for the next few months. I'm unsure about Mark Bittman lately. His 'vegan before 6pm' irritates me for reasons I need to examine. I've never had Kohlrabi, so thanks for the tip.

Hannah, it's just a little Muffin-size 'cake'. Of course I ate the whole thing. I'm not that bad.

Oh, so cool that you joined a CSA! I've only done that once and loved it. We might do it again one of these years, but it can be hard to use up the entire box sometimes.

That carrot cake is a perfect breakfast, IMO. So delicious!
