Sunday, September 28th

A new place to get a vegan breakfast opened in Fairfax last week: True Food Kitchen
My Tofu Scramble Wrap $9 made with Soy Chorizo and Pasilla Peppers with Anasazi Beans (served hot) on the side. At first, I thought the portion was too small, but by the end, I realized it was more than enough. I still prefer LPQ's now defunct Tofu Scramble with the Soy Cheese and the slabs of chewy bread, but this was certainly enjoyable, and I would pick this place over Tavern 64. The restaurant is far more spacious then LPQ. I am assuming that it will become so popular, that soon it will be impossible to get in and I will be in search of somewhere else for breakfast...
Speaking of LPQ, I wrote to their corporate headquarters a couple weeks ago and received a response from one 'Morena Tan' on 9/16:

"Thank you for your interest in Le Pain Quotidien and for taking the time to reach out to us. While we currently do not have plans to bring back the Tofu Scramble, our menu is always changing and evolving with the seasons so it might return in the future! In the mean time, I forwarded your feedback to our Food and Beverage team to take note. Thank you again, and we hope that you visit us soon!"

Morena somehow knew I love exclamation points. Anyway, I carried out an Andy's Favorite TLT $12 from True Food Kitchen for dinner. Tempeh, Lettuce, Tomato, Avocado, Vegenaisse on House Pita with Kale Salad on the side. No one can accuse Andy of skimping on food. This was outstanding, but oh! if only I hadn't eaten the WHOLE thing....
So freakin full, no room for any of my luscious desserts. I saw more enthusiastic people this weekend than I have seen in my entire life. Bye for now.

What an exciting weekend for you! Both wraps look incredible and how nice to have a new place for brunch, especially now that LPQ has confirmed that the tofu scramble is dunzo. It was nice that she at least wrote you back? Anyway, the food does look good. Would you consider taking your brunch out instead of dining in if it becomes too crowded in the future? Your dinner wrap looks especially delicious. Avocado makes life better.

Wow- you have such a great collection of vegan friendly restaurants now! Not sure i would have expected beans as a side to the tofu scramble wrap but if they were yummy then why not.
Looks like it was stuffed too- wraps with more wrap than filling make me a little crazy (who wants bites of just cold tortilla??)
The tempeh dinner wrap looks really good too- do they not use actual slices of bread..? I had a huge salad with massaged kale today, it is very filling. Could have used some tempeh....
So sooooo lame that LPQ discontinued the scrambled tofu. Not ok. I was cranky because i stopped into the LPQ in soho the other day for a treat and their pastry case isn't under glass or anything and there was a fly crawling on the hempseed blondie i wanted!! EEEEW!! I left and had to settle for the squashed chia warrior bar in my bag.

Hey Now!!!!!

Sarah, yes, I suppose it was nice of LPQ to write me back, but I still think they should bring back the Scramble and jettison something else off the menu. Your carryout idea from True Food Kitchen is interesting.

Unknown, Beans as a Breakfast Side was new to me. I suppose Andrew Weil must have issues with Potatoes and Bread. i dont know his eating philosophy, just that it is anti-inflammatory, I will say the Wraps were executed beautifully. No extra Tortilla/Pita. You would have loved the Kale Salad., i will be getting that again and again. Were LPQ actually in France, that would have been a Bee landing on your Blondie, but good thng you saw the fly when you did. I hope all these issues dont foretell the demise of the chain.

Thank goodness you finally ate the whole thing. Everytime you bring home half of your meal you leave me feeling like an enormous (emphasis on enormous) glutton!
