Saturday, September 27th

Look where I ate today!!!! Thanks to Ingrid's advice, I signed up for Native Food's email alerts and was invited to their soft opening this weekend...
I didn't realize that I had agreed to have my picture taken till after the lumch was over. That explains why the camera man acted like I was nuts when I requested he not take my photo. Mr. SVegetarian, however, gave a lengthy interview much lauding the place...
Andrea McGinty (the blonde in yellow talking to the cameraman way in the back of this photo) came to our table and spoke to us for about five minutes. She told us the best news: they're planning to open a couple more locations in Fairfax and Falls Church, Virginia this year! No having to go to D.C.!
Here is where you order upfront, then they bring the food to your table...
Daily Specials for $9.95 include a Side...
I should have behaved myself and stuck with Green Tea but...
I had a few Lost Rhino Face Plants ($2 each) to celebrate...
Japanese Sesame Crusted Chicken Bites as my Starter...
Mr. SVegetarian had a bowl of the Native Chili..We will definitely be bringing home quarts of this in the future...
I finally got to try the famous Reuben...While tasty, I will have try it again when I am not over-excited by a restaurant soft opening swirling around me because, as of this writing, I prefer both Common Market and Randy Radish's Reubens. The Sauerkraut in this particular Reuben was too timid for my tastes. Who knew I had an opinion about Sauerkraut?!...
Mr. SVegetarian's Blackened Chicken Twister Wrap...
We were beyond stuffed after all the delicious food and brought our desserts home for another day. Peanut Butter Parfait and a Fudgy Brownie...
After lunch, we went over to Woodlands Vegan Bistro (formerly Everlasting Life Cafe) to get carryout for later in the week. As you may recall, last Saturday I spent the majority of my time at Vegfest waiting in line at the Woodlands Food Truck...
and here I was a week later getting a ton of grub in less than ten minutes. Had I only known....Nonetheless, there is a new big dessert case in the restaurant with massiive pieces of Cheesecake at $6 per. I got a slice of Blueberry Cheesecake and three Chocolate Chip Cookies...
plus a bunch of Fried Chicken and Mac & Cheese...
Where you order the grub...Hot chicks get preferential treatment...
My Fried Chicken with Mac & Cheese for dinner...
Perhaps another exciting post tomorrow. Perhaps not. Bye for now.

YAY!!!! I am so excited you were able to go in and check it out! How lucky you were to be able to try so much! And you have accurately described their order to table service. When you are able to frequent the other locations, take out works pretty similarly.

Judging by the looks of your reuben, it appears the pumpernickel/rye combo is officially over (they quit serving it that way here, too). Also, when it is their special - I don't order it. It's not as good for some reason. I wouldn't be surprised if the other places offer better versions, and I may not be the best judge considering I've only tried one other reuben. Irregardless, there will be plenty of other yummy items to stock up on, I am certain! So happy you went!

Mega super special post indeed!! How exciting, I'm so jealous! Very cool that you were invited to the soft opening too. Must have been a fun experience minus the photo situation.

That's a bummer that the reuben wasn't amazing but those sesame chicken bites do look incredible as does Mr. SVeg's wrap. Really amazing looking stuff there and those desserts! Yum!! Looks like you definitely stocked up on some great food for the week and oh if only you had known before that wait last weekend! I can't wait to see what other yummy stuff you try from Native Foods. I'll sit here and be super jealous and excited for you :)

I want a native foods too!! Not fair! (Stamping feet, and crying commencing)
$2 beers??? That is unheard of. How exciting to have this near you! Those sesame chicken bites look so good-and you'll just have to try everything on the menu instead of sticking with the ruben :)
Dinner looks like some really legit fried "chicken" instead of those bread crumb covered versions. And those desserts- that is a lot of cheesecake in their case!

Mason knew i missed him and we see each other today :)) he did his happy to see me butt wiggle and even gave me the very rare highest seal of approval with a kiss on my cheek (his mom says he's a prude and only kisses a few favorite people) Made. My. Day.

Hey Now!!!!

Ingrid, the bread on the Reuben is very important. Native Foods bread was soft and the sandwich wasnt grilled. Perhaps it is healthier this way, but I will focus now on exploring the rest of the menu.

Sarah, thanks! The invite to the soft opening was the best thing to happen to me since I won a prize at the office xmas party last year (a chrome cast).

Unknown, I should have noted the $2 beers were just for the soft opening. i definitely plan on trying everything on the menu. Possibly even the Beet Steak. I got to pet TWO bulldogs at the Farmers Market today. they were so soft and wiggly. didnt get a kiss on the cheek though. Guess Bullies dont kiss on the first date.

VP, where the heck do you live? Somewhere in North Dakota?
