Saturday, March 22nd

Breakfast was a 'Green Smoothie' from the quaint little Superfoods On Main. This being my first visit, I was overwhelmed by all the vegan options, however, I was able to observe the proprietress putting Spinach, Rice Milk and Hemp Protein Powder into the blender for my drink. I'm not sure what else was in it, but it was d*mn good...
Lunch was at Great Sage. Mr. SVegetarian and I split the 'Spinach & Artichoke Dip' $10. We both love this so much, next time we might just get an order for each of us as our lunch....
I went with my usual: the 'Grilled Reuben' $12 Marinated and baked spiced Tempeh, Russian Dressing Sauerkraut and 'parmesan' on Toasted Rye with Creamy Dijon Coleslaw, Stone-Ground Mustard and a Dill Pickle...
Mr. SVegetarian enjoyed the 'Cottage Pie' $13 Roasted Mushrooms, Cabbage, Peas, Carrots and Parsnips stewed together and topped with Mashed Potatoes baked in a Pie Shell with Mushroom Sauce and a side of Chard...
Dinner was the leftovers of lunch...
A slice of Vegan Treats Raspberry Cheesecake for dessert...
Bye for now.

This was a dream day of food. Lucky you for not dreaming it.

Waaaaiit! I wanted to comment on yesterday's! The lunch bowl looks awesome, I want to recreate that.
Today also is an incredible day worth of food. I admire yr restraint in not eating the entire sandwich. In my early days of veganism, I attempted to recreate artichoke dip and did a disgusting job. This, however, looks pleasantly edible.
The cheesecake looks more than just edible.

Superfoods sounds like a great place! Beautiful green smoothie.

I, too, would just order the dip for lunch. I can't wait for you to try the Native Foods Reuben, just so you can compare it to this. When is that happening, by the way? ;)

P.S. Per your previous post, I'll talk to Grandma about the farm you mentioned, and see what she knows. Heck, my Dad might remember something considering he spent his childhood there. . .

Whoah!!! Crazy good food day today!
Superfoods sounds like a great find- i suspect they crammed a banana into your smoothie, nearly everyone tries to. (Uugh!!) the dip sharing works out perfectly though since you therefore have leftover lunch for dinner.... I don't think i've ever had that dip actually,(have not seen a vegan version) but its always sounded amazing.
And an amazing dessert. It will be hard to top this day.

I share your kitchen trust issues when eating out- the good news is butter is expensive so most kitchens (that aren't fancy four star places) don't use it at all for cooking and use cheaper soybean oil instead.

Hey Now!!!!

VW, wish I could take credit for the Cottage Pie plating. Or the Cheesecake.

Hannah, it was cold hard reality acquiring all that dreamy food, but worth the efforts involved (although I'm still recovering).

FF, I (and I'm sure many others) always think of you when Beets pop up somewhere. The French apparently know how to work with them so they're not so...Beety...I have a few vegan Spinach & Artichoke recipes I'm hoping to try out one day as well.

Ingrid, July & August (the greatest time to be in DC) is when we are to expect Native Foods to open here. Your Dad would definitely remember Evans Farm Inn. As well as Hot Shoppes, Shakeys, possibly even Mario's Pizza depending how cool he was.

Unknown, I'm thinking there was no Banana in my Smoothie because it was more liquidy than creamy. Shocked that you've never had Spinach & Artichoke Dip. I'd swear that treat originated in California. A lot of restaurants down here rely on butter (the real thing) to make the food taste so good. We're talking about big chunks of butter served on the food. In cosmopolitan areas, I believe there is more talent in the kitchen, so it's not as necessary to take the easy (buttery) way to good flavor.

This looks like a really great food day! That green smoothie is so pretty! What a vibrant color. How did this reuben stack up in comparison to the others you've tried? That dip looks so good, I haven't had spinach and artichoke dip in so long,
