WTF Thursday

Eggless Egg Salad on a toasted Rudi's English Muffin for breakfast...
Tofu and Cashew Nuts carried out from Faang for lunch....
Boca Chikn Patties and Asparagus for dinner.
Cleo Cups for dessert.
When I saw the headlines today: 'Vegan Flips Out', my first thought was, 'Oh no! What did FF do now?' Turned out to be a guy named Jack Litsky from New Jersey who wanted to bring his own pasta to a restaurant. Personally, I've always been way more suspicious of the sauce in restaurant than the pasta. Speaking of which, Groupon lunch out with Mom tomorrow.

What a strange news story. I'm much more suspicious of the sauce, too.

You had a delicious looking day. I've got to do that breakfast sometime. Yum!

Ha ha! I have contemplated calling ahead and mentioning that I'll bring tofu or almond milk to popular un-vegan breakfast joints. Now I know that I'd be in the newspaper.

Is that a hint that you'll be having Italian tomorrow, or are you trying to throw off my game?

Haha yeah makes sense that was in Jersey ;) I'm weary of pasta sauce always... that damn hidden cheese! Why do people feel the need to put cheese in EVERYTHING?! The pasta is iffy too though because eggs sneak their way in there too. Blech.

Great looking meals as always! The tofu with cashews looks pretty spectacular and dinner looks great too. Peanut butter and chocolate is a perfect way to cap off the day.

The couple in that article sound kind of insane.... And pasta wouldnt be as worrisome as the rest of the menu at an italian restaurant!
I used to find these perfect seasoning packets for eggless salad-i think there was dried mustard involved? Cubed food lunch is good lookin- nice bit of veg in there too
At least the asparagus got the clue its spring.
Cleo cups kick some reeses booot-y.

I hate when articles focus on the fact people who behave badly are vegan. I mean, I guess their veganism was sort of germane to the story, but it still annoys me. Also it wrongly implies that pasta is not vegan. Argh, getting annoyed... think of something positive...your food looks yummy. That asparagus is pretty.

I hate it when a weirdo who happens to be vegan makes the rest of the vegan community look weird by comparison.

If that guy was so concerned, why'd he even go out to eat?

Hmm, I can't imagine bringing my own cooking instructions to a restaurant. I go out of my way to present veganism as a positive thing that friendly people choose to follow. Our family will pick something off the menu that is vegan or ask for something vegetarian and then have the dairy removed. If you are kind and respectful, you will get wonderful service and a smile when you return, not groans.

Craziness aside, I've been longing to try that Cleo chocolate for the longest time. Well, if by "longest" we mean "since I first heard of them a year or so ago".

Hey Now!!!!

Molly, it was a strange news story. Hard to believe it trended on Yahoo!

Ingrid, what were you hoping to use the Soy or Almond Milk for in the restaurants? Just to add to coffee? I thought about giving you a clue to today's lunch, but I knew you'd never get it since we rarely do Lebanese Taverna. Wouldn't be playing fair.

VaVa, not just the cheese in restaurant dishes is concerning but the butter really gets me. I know restaurants love to put butter (and salt) in dishes to make them taste better.

Unknown, yeah, the couple gave vegans a bad rap. Yesterday was more of a rectangular lunch. I recall seeing those Eggless Egg Salad seasoning packets as well. Same for Tofu Scramble seasoning packets. Wonder if those seasoning packet companies went out of business?

Miss Rachel, didn't mean for the article to annoy. I was more fascinated that someone would bring their own dried Pasta to a restaurant. The commenters were actually pretty decent last I looked at the article.

Sage, good point. Probably because he's vegan for health reasons, so he's just obsessed with himself and doesn't think about how he's affecting anyone else.

Blessed Mama, I also avoid asking for special dispensation anywhere as well. Attracting attention to oneself in a restaurant scares me.

Hannah, gimme your addy and I'll snail mail you some Cleos. Feeling generous from the nine comments. Hurry before it passes.

1eded7a4-91c0-11e2-bd5a-000bcdca4d7a, Mr. SV eats differently. He actually eats mainly lots carryout Soups (Pho and Hot Hot Shabu Shabu) from Loving Hut & Sunflower, but he has to get his own boring blog to show all that.
