Yesterday's torrential downpour brought up Morels in our front yard! Major score! They're soaking overnight, so we'll fry them up tomorrow.
We celebrated our fungal bounty with lunch at Haute Dogs & Fries. I enjoyed two Smart Dogs with Onions & Ketchup. The Fries looked deceptively over cooked, but were light and fresh as always.

Major score on the morels! That sandwich cookie looks divine.
How exciting about the mushrooms! Did you plant them or do they pop up on their own? We got rains, but all I have are a few radish sprouts..
Morels in your front yard? That is v. cool. Can't wait to see them sauteed up.
Those haute dogs look the business too! yum.
Fungal bounty...lol. :D
oh morels! i was reading a book and they had those in them! how exciting that they were just in your yard!
that cookie looks great also.cream filled and vanilla? yes please
That is really awesome you have Morels growing.
I am ridiculously jealous about the morels. Ever since I read "The Omnivore's Dilemma," I've been dying to go mushroom hunting. Sadly there isn't much of it to be had around these parts.
I just wanted to thank you so much for your blog. I live in Woodbridge, VA and I'm a new vegan, long time vegetarian, and I have found so many great places to eat, and great dinner/meal ideas (my husband and kids are still meat eaters) from you. You have opened my eyes to the ease and availability of vegan food locally!! Thanks for sharing!
Yeesh, I've seen recipes with morels before, but they look very odd to me. I'm interested in how you'll prepare them. Maybe, just maybe, I'll have an open mind.
I can't wait to see those morels all cooked up. All I get from torrential downpours are big white mushrooms that I wouldn't dare eat. :o) Sounds like the bad weather we had went your direction.
Those morels look like they should have little gnomes under them!
Morels in the front yard! Lucky! I don't think they grow down here, and I've only ever seen them at Whole Foods...and they're way expensive, so I've never tried them.
OMG! Commenters are popping up like shrooms!
VF, I just realized your avatar of a flower is a 'V'.
FF, Alas! Morels only grow in disturbed areas under Poplars and Ash trees. Can't be cultivated by man.
Rose, the Pacific Northwest is ground zero for Morels. Although, I think you may have missed them this year.
Michelle1, you were reading a book that had those in them? Sounds..compelling...
Debbie44 & Brigid, thanks!
Dena, as long as you have Wegmans near by, you'll be fine;-) Thanks for such a nice compliment. I'm not worthy!
Blessed Mama, Michelle2 & the only Susan I know, thanks! I'll fry them suckers up tomorrow! No gnomes shall be harmed.
Bianca, our yard is five mostly wooded acres, so wild things can do their wild thing.
That was a really nice comment from "Dena." I'm sure it's nice to know you're educating fellow Virginians!
"Michelle1, you were reading a book that had those in them? Sounds..compelling..." - bwahahaha
Poor little gnomes...taking away their homes...
