Friday, July 19th

A Cherry Scone, with an intriguing barely perceptible touch of salt, from Le Pain Quotidien for breakfast. I am hoping the flavor was part of the recipe and not sweat off the brows of French Pastry Chefs. Anyone else out there tried an LPQ Cherry Scone?
Lunch was my usual 'Penne Mediterranean' $14.65 at Brio. Mushrooms, Spinach, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Caramelized Onions and Pine Nuts in a Light Vegetable Broth...
Although the heat index was 112 degrees, Mr. SVegetarian permitted me to turn on the oven for a half hour tonight. Boca Burgers with CSA Cherry Tomatoes and Roasted Squash (with decorative Basil Leaf) for dinner it was...
Blessed Mama Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookie for dessert...
My main goal for tomorrow is to eat out. Will I make it happen, and, if so, where?

Heat index of 112?! Gross!

I almost said that Brio was my guess for your Italian lunch - I will pat myself on the back for at least thinking it. ;) It does look good.

You will go somewhere with air-conditioning tomorrow. . .

112 makes me cry a little. It's so unbearable. It is one of the few things that makes me happy about not working weddings anymore. I'll take the air conditioned studio in 112 degree condition over a wedding any day.

Interesting about the scone... I'm hoping the salty taste was intentional as well. That pasta looks absolutely gorgeous and putting on the oven def paid off... great looking dinner!

Sundried tomatoes are back? That must be nice for them, having been in hibernation since the 70s and all.

Yikes, your heat index was pretty bad! I think ours got to around 100. That humidity is a killer.

Great looking lunch. Le Pain really makes a lot of great things, that scone is one of them! I would have never thought of a cherry scone.

I haven't seen the cherry scone at lpq before but i can't say i was looking for it either.... And a little organic french salinity may be a reason to raise the price even more! Maybe someone grabbed a pinch from the salt instead of the sugar?
Looks like brio made you a nice lunch, pine nuts are a plus in my book. Dinner has some gorgeous veggies! The basil leaf is a nice touch! The basil is very much like mint or spinach, very refreshing summery flavor.
Hahaha, i would be too embarresed to put my sorbet and wine dinner on a blog!
I think you will go in search of cold adult beverages and labor intensive vegan food made by others on sat.
Hope your heat wave moves along too. 91degrees right now in nyc still. Blech.

Hey Now!!!!

Ingrid, considering all the gift cards my Mother has bought for Brio, there will be many more lunches there.

VaVa, I can't believe that so many weddings occur in such heat. Where is the joy in that?

Hannah, ha! It's the Sun-Dried Tomatoes that save this dish. I should ask for extra, since they're leaving off the cheese. Thanks for the idea!

RVs, way to look on the bright side of the scone;-)

Unknown, didn't do anything with the Basil today, but it is holding up okay. 91 degrees would be a relief here. Unlike another NY blogger, I hope you have A/C in your apartment.
