Hama Sushi, Herndon

I forced myself to not go to Perfect Pita today.
Instead I got the Veggie Roll Combo from Hama Sushi.
I dont know what those things in the back are,
they were stuffed with rice. It was all very nice
but expensive at $10.50 for lunch.

Perfect Pita, Reston

Lunch again today. I am hopelessly addicted
to this sandwich:

"The Hummus Veggie." Hummus with Lettuce,
Tomato, Onions, Green Peppers and Cucumbers
on a toasted Pita. (Specify No cheese). $4.99.
It's a delicious steal, but it's getting embarrassing
how often I am getting them.

Mimosa, Winchester

Today we went back to our tried and true Mimosa.

I had a Lotus Flower Martini (Absolut, Lychee
Liqueur, Curacao) along with some Edamame

and the Sichuan Kung Pao Tofu. All excellent.

Brewbaker's, Winchester

Today's lunch was at Brewbaker's.
We both got the Veggie Subs for $.8.45 each.
Described on the menu as being on a toasted
'hoagie roll' it was on more of a very soft white
bread. The sub was stuffed with grilled broccoli,
carrots, onions, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce and tomato.
Served with a pickle and fries, lunch was pretty
good, but I doubt we'd go out of our way to go
back. There are too many other great places
to eat.

Colcannon Puffs

When I saw this recipe I couldn't wait to make it.

I missed St. Patrick's Day by about a week, but
here is the pureed Kale going into the Mashed
Potatoes...
I could only fit fifteen 'Puffs' on the tray at a
time and made a total of 25.
I thought the Puffs would pair well with some Trader
Joe's Chicken-Less Pulled Chicken. A few bloggers
have ragged on this product, but I love it. Although,
their opinion did give me pause, so I tried a few
drops of hot sauce on the 'chicken' and it did taste
even better. Susan's Puffs are fantastic. I will definitely
make them again.

The Backseat Bar & Grill, Winchester

Today's lunch was at this hard to find little joint.

The outside is boring...

...but the inside has a lot of stuff going on, with
several TVs, a jukebox, full bar etc.

We started with the Fried Pickles, aka 'Frickles'.
Super crispy on the outside, yummy dill pickles
on the inside.

The Veggie Burger for $6.99 was very large and
came with a generous portion of Fries. This place
is a real find. We can't wait to go back!

The Old South Mountain Inn, Boonsboro, Maryland

Today's lunch was at this historic inn. A great
place for weddings, parties or just a parking
lot for hikers of the Appalachian Trail.

They have both the open and airy sun room
to dine in as well as lots of dark cozy tables
in the old house.

The salad that comes with every meal was
easy to veganize.

Replaced the house dressing with oil & vinegar.
The on-line menu was different than the menu
we were handed in the restaurant, i.e., no
vegetarian items.

Fortunately, the chef was able to make me a
dish of Fettucini with mixed vegetables and
olive oil. The restaurant is very popular and
Mr. SV wants to return, so I'm sure that we
shall.

The Perfect Pita, Reston

I saw some Perfect Pita Hummus on sale at
Whole Foods today and decided to go there to
get carry-out.

The Mediterranean Mix is so pretty and its only 5.99!
A combination of Hummus, Red Pepper Hummus,
White Bean Salad, Shepherd Salad and Stuffed
Grape Leaves w/a piece of Pita Bread on the side.
Fanastic and filling. It could be eaten by mixing all
the salads together as one 'big salad' or enjoy each
item individually or a little of both!

Fosters Grille, Winchester

We had a two-for-one coupon, so we tried this
place today.

The veggie burgers are deep-fried. Perhaps
they're so rarely ordered, they keep them
frozen. I can't decide if deep-fried is better
than cooked on the grill with the meat.
Regardless, due to the excess oil involved in the
whole meal, we dont plan on returning.

Trader Joe's Chicken-Less Stuffed Cutlet

Dinner tonight...

These were quite tasty...
Alas, these pics are actual size. Each cutlet is
160 calories, and while this is reasonable portion,
I'd need to eat about five to be satisfied.

Beef Stroganoff

I really like Random Girl's Recipe for Beef Stroganoff.

I made the Seitan on Saturday and the rest
on Sunday.
First you mix up the Sour Cream, Tomato Paste
and Worcestershire Sauce. ..
...toss the Seitan with Flour , Salt & Pepper.

After frying the Onion (I used Shallots) fry up
the Seitan...

...then deglaze w/Broth (I used Water and Sherry)

...and add the 'shrooms.

and the sour cream mixture...
...and the Noodles (I also added Peas). I highly
recommend this recipe.
