Escape From Baltimore!

Due to a water main break, E. Lombard Street was shut down and I was unable to find my way out of Baltimore today. Fortunately, I had a delicious 18" pizza from Brick Oven Pizza in the car to tide me over till I finally found the signs for Route 95 South.

Broccoli, Mushrooms, Green Peppers and Onions with Teese cheese ($4 surcharge for Teese). Minus the two slices I ate in traffic.

I stopped at Whole Foods and saw a stack of these boxes of brownies. $6.99 a box, I'll let you know how they are.

Blue Moon Cafe, Shepherdstown, WV

Today's lunch was in the shaded outdoor garden at Blue Moon Cafe.

We started with the Tuscan White Bean Bruschetta...savory blend of northern white beans, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh garlic & basil served with toasted ciabatta fingers...$4.50

I had the Powerhouse Sandwich...Lettuce, tomato, hummus, cucumber, red onion, sprouts, roasted red pepper on wheat...$7

Dinner was my current addiction: Boca Chick'n Patties with TJ's Marinara Sauce and FYH Cheddar.

Easy Meals

Today's lunch and dinner were both three ingrediant meals:

Lunch was one of my old standbys: TJ's Chicken Strips tossed with a tablespoon or three of Goddess Dressing and diced Celery.

Dinner was the Three B's: Barley, Beans & Broccoli. Also super simple.

A pair of Wrens decided to build their nest in our garage. Today their chicks were testing their wings.
There must've been about five tiny Wrens flitting about.

It's great that they're practicing while safe from predators. Love the 'just-hatched' hair.

One-Skillet Italian Meal

I saw this recipe via Slashfood and it sounded pretty good.

I sauteed a package of Gimme Lean with an onion and garlic.

Then I set it aside and sauteed the veggies...

Added the broken pasta (capellini)...

...then the tomatoes, tomato juice & spices...

After simmering 20 minutes I stirred in baby spinach

Mr. SV liked it alot. I wasn't too impressed.

These are the morels we found in our yard. I coated them in Veganaise and Panko and baked at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Served with Goddess Dressing, they came up yummy!

Warka, Herndon

Carryout from Warka Ethiopian Restaurant.

I'm still unable to get my images and text in order but this is Miser Wot (Spicy Lentils) alongside Collard Greens & Cabbage. I used to go to Warka all the time a few years ago, but it started to give me heartburn. Today's lunch really hit the spot! It was extremely delicious with no ill effects.

Dinner tonight was good old
'merican Tofu Scramble.

Morels!

We found these beautiful mushrooms right in our front yard just this afternooon. They're currently soaking in lightly salted water, I hope to cook them tomorrow night.

And this is my supermarket saladbar salad from today. Topped with Fresh Gourmet Organic Croutons and doused in Goddess Dressing.

Bologna Sandwich

Today I had lunch at home:

Yves' Bologna with Rice Cheese & Tomatoes on
TJ's Whole Grain Bread. Simple and filling.

A new Vegan cheese I found:

Evergreen, Chantilly

I did some grocery shopping at the new Lotte in
Chantilly today. After I finished shopping, I went
to the Korean restaurant, Evergreen, in the food
court. (The Korean restaurant at SuperH in Fairfax has the same name so I assume they're related. I am smart like that).

Anyway, I got the Bi Bim Bop for $6.99.
The pics are still not cooperating, but right is my
lunch prior to mixing with rice & hot sauce.

Cafesano, Reston

Carryout from Cafesano today was this beautiful
Avocado, Tomato Wrap. A "zesty Avocado mix
wrapped with Roma Tomatoes, Romaine, Scallions and Kalamata Olives. Served with baked Lavash Chips and Grapes. Supremely delicious for $6.89 and I don't know why the picture is on the right instead of the middle, but it refuses to move to the left.

Deli On The Square, Reston

Trying to branch out from Perfect Pita, I tried this
office park deli today.

I got the Avocado Dream (Avocado, Sprouts &
Cucumber on Pita) $4.15 with a side of Fries $1.20.
It was adequate for the price but think I'd try
something else next time.

Bourbon Chicken

This recipe first came to my attention in
Northern Virginia Magazine. Per my cooking
criteria, the recipe was super simple.

I veganized it using Soy Protein Chunks.
The flavor was good, but the Soy Protein
Chunks were tough. Someone with more cooking
experience than myself would probably be able
to make this simple recipe really tasty.

Boca Chik'n Patties

I used to eat these all the time several years ago,
but just started eating again recently.

They're delicious convenience food if not over-
cooked or under-cooked. I prefer mine topped
with TJ's Marinara Sauce and shredded FYH
Cheddar.

Mike's Deli At The Lazy Sundae, Falls Church

Today's carryout was from Mike's.

My Haifa Hummos Sandwich -- Hummus,
Lettuce, Tomato, Sprouts, Avocado & Cucumber

Their Marble Rye bread is superb. The picture
doesn't do this sandwich justice. For $5.50, it
came w/Ruffles and a pickle spear. Love this
place!

Another Good Food Day

Today's lunch from The Perfect Pita:

The Mediterranean Sampler: Tabouleh, Hummus
and White Bean Salad on greens. I really hope
this chain can keep up the quality, it's unbelievable
to get a huge high quality salad like this for $5.49.

I am so lucky! Mr. SV made his speciality tonight:
Smart Dogs baked in Crescent Rolls with Baked Beans.

Kamut, Tempeh, olives & marinated 'shrooms...

Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Purcellville

This is my Hummus Among Us Sandwich from
this afternoon:

Hummus, tomatoes, field greens, basil, roasted
red & green peppers on whole wheat. Another
case where the filling was good, but the bread
not up to par, like whole wheat Wonder Bread.
Note to self: Do not get whole wheat bread from
Tropical Smoothie Cafe again.
Tonight's dinner was Susan's Ribz with some
Ore-Ide Gourmet Onion Rings. Reliably
delicious.

Good Natured, Martinsburg, WV

Lunch today was in this quaint historic home.

Inside it's more of a grocery store:
but they have a few tables set up.

Today's specials.

We started with the Pumpkin Biscuits which
came with vegan butter.

I had the Cheese Stuffed Panini - Grilled and filled
vegan cheddar, roasted red peppers, and red pepper/
basil pesto.

Mr. SV had the"Sweetest" Potato Falafel - Traditional
falafel made with a touch of sweet potato stuffed
into a whole wheat pita.
Some Edamame Dip was served alongside...
...as well as this lovely vinaigrette for our salads.

These were the cool Salt & Pepper grinders
on the table. This is a really neat little
place in old town Martinsburg. Good food
and friendly service.

California Pizza Kitchen, Tysons Corner

This picture is very unappetizing, but since
I've posted where I've had lunch every day
this week, I thought I'd post today's carryout
from CPK.

The Tuscan Hummus with Pita is always
phenomenal. I don't know what CPK does
to make it so yummy.
05.26.2009 - I JUST FOUND OUT THE PITA BREAD IS NOT VEGAN!!!!!!!
If you want to try the CPK Hummus, ask for the Neopolitan Crust instead of
the Pita Bread to go with it. Sorry for the misinformation. This was news to me!

I also bought the last three vegan cupcakes
at Cakelove. Natalia's cupcakes are more to
my taste, but I like to show businesses, whenever
possible, that there is consumer demand for
vegan foodstuff.
