WTF Wednesday

Nature's Path Blueberry Cinnamon Flax Cereal for breakfast. Couldn't stop thinking 'Twig & Berries! Twig & Berries!' whilst consuming this. Sometimes I cant form an opinion about a cereal based on the first bowl...
Some random vegan stuff off the Wegman's Vegetarian Bar for lunch: Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Tofu, Carrots & Apples with Dried Cranberries and Cabbage...
All mixed together into a Food Feud Bowl. A very unusual way to eat food. I think there's something to this bowl food thing, but I'm not sure what....
A Light Life Bologna Sandwich with Wegman's Spicy Olive Mix for dinner...
Wholly Wholesome Dairy Free Pumpkin Pie for dessert....
No repeats tomorrow either.

WTF Tuesday

Quaker Oats Oatmeal Squares with hint of Cinnamon for Breakfast. These didn't wow me, but I don't think they're supposed to. I think they're supposed to start the day off nice and slow...
Eggless Egg Salad from The Common Market with Wegman's Spicy Olive Mix for lunch...
'Mixed Vegetables and Tofu' $8.95 from Loving Hut for dinner...
While currently 'Mixed Vegetables and Tofu' is my favorite dish from Loving Hut, I need to try some of their specials next...
We picked up the Loving Hut grub on Sunday. While there, I was examining the contents of their freezer. Thought these vegan Fried Eggs were unusual. I would've bought them, but I couldn't have kept them frozen till I got home....
Vegan Treats Hazelnut Cheesecake for dessert. It looked better before the ride home...
All different grub tomorrow.

WTF Monday

This Organic Honey Crisp Apple weighed in at almost a pound. It was bought for breakfast at work, but since I decided to stay home today, I figured, why not just eat it at home? So glad I did. It was totally mind-blowing. Plus, a crunchy Apple belongs at home instead of a cubicle. Hard to be quiet eating this.
Eggless Egg Salad from The Common Market with Wegman's Spicy Olive Mix for lunch...
Dinner was a recipe recommended to me by Unknown: Mark Bittman's Sweet Potato Stew. I added a can of Black Beans at the end.

1 Pound Sweet Potatoes, cubed
1 Apple, peeled and cubed (Granny Smith)
1 Onion, chopped
Coconut Milk (TJ's Light Coconut Milk)
Chilis (dried or fresh), to taste (Jalapeño)
Ginger (one knob)
Curry Powder
Vegetable Stock or Water (water)
Peanuts, for garnish (didn't do this)
Cilantro, for garnish (didn't do this)

Preparation:
Sauté 1 pound cubed sweet potatoes, a peeled and cubed apple, chopped onion, minced chili (dried or fresh) and minced ginger, along with a sprinkle of curry powder in a large saucepan until the onion is soft, 5 or 6 minutes. Add coconut milk thinned with vegetable stock or water to about halfway up the sides of the mixture; cook until soft, then mash about half of the mixture. Garnish with chopped peanuts and cilantro and serve.

I felt very healthy eating this, it's easy to make and it makes a lot. Thanks, Unknown!
Wholly Wholesome Dairy Free Pumpkin Pie for dessert. This time the crust refused to adhere to the filling, but still tasted good.
More WFH grub tomorrow.

Sunday, October 27th

Breakfast was at Le Pain Quotidien. 'Tofu Scrambler' $9.95 with a side of Avocado $3.95. They were mobbed and we had to sit at one of the Communal Tables, which I still feel uptight about, but service and food were excellent.
A carryout 'Vegan Kale Caesar' $13.25 for lunch. Curly Kale, Organic Tofu, Organic Carrots, Gomasio and Miso-Lapsang Dressing served with Organic Bread (aka Croutons). I liked all the Croutons and that it took almost a half an hour to finish, but it's no where near as great as the 'Organic Lentil and Avocado Salad'. 'Gomasio', rich in calcium and iron, is Sesame Salt made of toasted Sesame Seeds and Sea Salt. 'Lapsang' is a smokey Chinese Tea.
The rest of 'Celeriac Soup ' $4 from The Randy Radish for dinner. At this rate, I might have to change the name of the blog to 'The Shenandoah Gourmet'.
Also, from The Randy Radish, 'Thumbprint Cookies' $4 for dessert...
A great food weekend. So sad it's over.

Saturday, October 26th

Breakfast was at Harrimans Grill. We both had the 'Tofu Scramble' $12 Vine-Ripened Tomatoes, Green Onions, Tempeh Sausage (even thought the menu says 'Bacon') and Roasted Potatoes. Thankfully, service was top notch again. They're really working hard to get in gear.
'Tofu With Cashew Nuts' $9 at Faang for lunch. Mr. SVegetarian ate my rice, but this was how it was originally served...
A Battered and Deep Fried Field Roast Frankfurter $5 from The Randy Radish with Roasted Cauliflower for dinner. This was my first ever Corn Dog. Unexpectedly light, with hardly any coating. The Frankfurter just kind of expanded in the fryer, I guess that is why it is so plump. Very delectable.
Wholly Wholesome Dairy Free Pumpkin Pie for dessert. Hard to believe this is the best pic I could get of my dessert.
An all around great food day considering it was completely unplanned.

Friday, October 25th

Banana and Nuttzo for breakfast...
'Fettuccine Rustica' $10.45 at Brio for lunch. Fresh Fettuccine with spicy Marinara, Capers, Kalamata Olives. It didn't register with me till after lunch that there were most likely eggs in the pasta since it was 'fresh'. Really pissed at my own stupidity.
An utterly divine bowl of 'Celeriac Soup ' $4 from The Randy Radish for dinner. Basil Oil Drizzle furnished by the RR and applied by moi. It is so great to eat prepared food that is not only delicious but guaranteed vegan.
I thought about eating more tonight, but decided instead to just go out on a high note with the Soup.

WTF Thursday

Nature's Path Corn Flakes with Hemp Milk for breakfast...
'Mixed Vegetables and Tofu' $8.95 from Loving Hut for lunch...
A 'Muffaletta Sandwich ' $7 from The Randy Radish for dinner.  New Orleans style sandwich piled high with house-made organic Olive Salad, Field Roast Wild Mushroom Slices and Smoked Tomato Cold Cuts on a Fresh-Baked Whole Wheat Boule. Oven Fries on the side.
A couple Uncle Eddies PB Chocolate Chip Cookies from the bottom of the bag for dessert. We would eat these more frequently, but they aren't so easy to find in these parts.
Italian lunch out with Mom tomorrow.

WTF Wednesday

Heritage Flakes and Hemp Milk for breakfast. Now that I'm over my initial disappointment with this cereal, I thought it would be like Wheaties,  I can accept it on its own terms. I don't see any reason to buy it again, but it's pretty good for what it is...
Eggless Egg Salad from The Common Market with some Spicy Olive Salad from Wegman's for lunch. I have no clue what that marinated vegetable is in the foreground. It's part of the Olive Salad...
Gone in 60 seconds: A 'Crabby Cake Sandwich ' $7 from The Randy Radish for dinner. Hearts of Palm, Organic Sweet White Corn and Sauteed Veggies formed into Croquettes, pan fried, and served atop an Organic Whole Wheat Bun with Mixed Greens and Creamy Remoulade Sauce. I inhaled it so fast, I can't give anymore information on the delicious details of it. Oven Fries on the side...
Really stale PPK Banana Bread for dessert. Made fresh again with a big blob of PB & Co White Chocolate Peanut Butter...
More of the same tomorrow, but with a few small differences.

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Tuesday, October 22nd

My last Gardein Breakfast Sandwich (that I know of) for breakfast (till I get more. Yes, I want more)...
An attempt at a 'Food Feud Bowl' from Wegmans Veggie Hot Bar, i.e., just a bunch of disparate items sort of piled on top of each other. I didn't have the guts to toss it all together with Hummus. Maybe next time. Tasted really great, Weggies is finally waking up to veganism...
Beyond Meat Chicken with TJ's Teeny Tiny Taters and Imagine Mushroom Gravy for dinner...
The other half of my Alternative Baking Company Chocolate Chip Cookie for dessert. Damn great Cookie...
Back to WFH grub tomorrow.

Monday, October 21, 2013

WTF Monday

Kashi Berry Fruitful with Hemp Milk for breakfast...
'Red Curry Tofu' $9.99 from Thai Deelish for lunch. Tofu, Eggplant, Bamboo Shoots and Basil Leaves in Coconut Red Curry....
Boca Burgers with TJ's Vegetarian Chili and Oven Fries for dinner...
Pumpkin Cheesecake from the The Common Market for dessert...
The decorative swirl on top tasted just as good as the Cheesecake.
Cube food tomorrow.

Sunday, October 20th

Given free choice of where to have breakfast this morning, Mr. SVegetarian chose Harrimans Grill. His choice surprised me, not only because he's a Tavern 64 man, but service yesterday was not something I felt like enduring again anytime soon. He made a great choice because this morning service was quite adept. We both savored the 'Tofu Scramble' $12 Vine-Ripened Tomatoes, Green Onions, Tempeh Bacon (Sausage?) and Roasted Potatoes....
I got a side of WW Toast $3 to enjoy the tiny jelly, although, I guess I could just eat the jelly straight out of the jar duh! next time...
Boca Burgers with TJ's Vegetarian Chili and Roasted Acorn Squash for dinner...
The Chocolate Croissants from yesterdays breakfast for dessert. They were more like Chocolate Rolls with some Dark Chocolate in the middle. Good, but nothing like an actual Chocolate Croissant.
Because I couldn't get any in-focus pics of the barn cats, here are some cheerful backyard birds to help transition us out of the weekend...a Tuffy...
and a Chickadee chowing down on food this afternoon...
WFH grub tomorrow.
